Throwback to blindtasting over Christmas. I think every dinner involved blindtasting.

Louis-Michel Liger-Belair

My first visit to Beaune included a visit to Louis-Michel Liger-Belair. It was a fantastic visit, unlike any other I have experienced before. Louis-Michel spent the first half speaking about the history of the winery, his family and their traditions. It was fascinating listening to how his wines have evolved over the different generations.

The tasting itself took place in the cellar, and with a glass in hand, we walked around the barrels and tasted directly out of them. He took time to explain about each wine, explaining with passion and excitement. He also allowed us to taste from his personal barrel, where he stores wine that will not make it onto the market. Although he keeps some for himself, he offers the bottles of this particular wine to charity auctions, helping them raise more money. He also said that since this wine is not on the regular market, it allows him to experiment with it.

Wine Gear: Wine Cooler

I found this in the many different wine stores in Beaune. It's one of my many new additions to the wine gear collection.

DIY: Corkboard

What you need: all around glue, wine corks, a frame.
Very easy to do, if you have some free time and a creative need to fill. I plan to make an even bigger one, for my wall.

Matrot

The first time in Beaune and I was lucky enough to visit Matrot. Adele Matrot gave the tasting, and I got to taste some of my favorite wines. She was very excited about her work, and although she spoke mostly French (there were 6 Frenchmen there also), she took the time to explain about the winery and the wine in English as well.

Before we arrived in Beaune, there had been a hail storm, and many of the grapes were ruined. The winemakers were truly disappointed, and hope for better weather next year.

Burlotto

This was my first visit to Burlotto, and it was a great one. The wines were of excellent quality, the wine maker was wonderful and the visit was fun.
Burlotto has been making wine for about 6 generations, and to this day, they still stomp their grapes by feet. As seen in the movies.
Tradition is a huge part of the wine making, as you can also see in the labels.
I will definitely be going back here.

Mangé

Mangé is a new restaurant in La Morra. The owners used to have a restaurant in Casteglione Falletto, Le Torri, but they moved. The food is excellent, the wine list is fantastic and the people are wonderful.

For lunch we had a Ettore Germano Herzu and Mauro Veglio Langhe Nebbiolo. The wine is so cheap compared to Norway, so we are all in heaven.

We will definitely go back here. In fact, we are having dinner there tomorrow night!

#tbt: Mangialonga 2013

Almost a year ago, I had the pleasure of participating in the Mangialonga.

For those of you who don't know, Mangialonga is basically a "walkathon" where you walk about 2km, while eating and drinking. Drinking a lot!

EVERYONE is welcome (you have to buy a ticket of course), but last year dogs, and kids, and adults, and cripples and whatever else came through the Start line and the crossed the finish line a few drops of alcohol later.

At the end, there is a party, with Moscato (as much as you may desire).
